Frequently Asked Questions
Here are a number of commonly asked wedding photography questions.
If after reading you still have an unanswered query, please feel free to drop me an email at nick@shoottheday.co.uk
How many photos will we receive?
This often depends on a number of factors – which package you have chosen, the weather conditions, number of guests etc. But my basic rule is that if I think it is a good photo or it is a photo the couple will appreciate, then it will be processed and will make it into the final album. There are some photographers who will provide every photograph taken, however I believe in quality over quantity. I won’t give you 10 of the same shot I did, I will give only the best! For my platinum package, I always aim to deliver a minimum of 400 fully processed photos of your day.
How long will you stay for?
Even though my Platinum Package is advertised as ‘Until First Dance’, this does not mean I will pack up my camera immediately once this is over! I will also get plenty of dance floor shots afterwards… I normally stay till about 9.30pm. I would hate to miss Auntie Pam sinking her 4th sambuca!
Will you take photos of the groom as well as the bride before the wedding?
I usually try to visit both the bride as well as the groom before the ceremony. Normally I will first visit the bride whilst she has her hair and make up done, and capture details such as the dress and shoes, plus take some informal photos with her father and bridesmaids. If the groom and his groomsmen are getting ready nearby or at the wedding venue then I’ll aim to get shots of them getting ready too. If they are getting ready far away at a separate location then this may be a bit tricky and obviously travelling around eats into valuable shooting time!
How many group photos do we need?
This is entirely up to you. I try to do these photographs within half an hour of your day so everyone can relax for longer. It’s often a good idea to assign a ‘reliable’ usher the job of rounding up guests as needed for this.
Will you ask our guests to pose all day?
There will be the obvious times when I ask your guests to “smile at the camera” but my number one aim is to blend into the background and allow you and your guests to relax and enjoy the celebrations without the photographer interfering.
Do you do black and white photos?
You will receive all of your images in full colour. But a large selection of the photos (ones I feel will work well) will also be individually converted to black and white
Do you offer any ‘custom’ packages?
Yes, very happy to work around you and your requirements. Just let me know what you are after!
Do you offer discount for mid-week weddings?
I’m afraid not, mid-week weddings are very popular now so keep me just as busy as weekends!
Are there any hidden extras?
No, the price quoted is the price you will pay for wedding ceremonies within a 30 mile radius of Gloucester. The only extra costs would cater for travel for ceremonies that are outside of these areas.
What equipment do you use?
I shoot with high-end full-frame Nikon digital cameras and fast F/ 2.8 Nikon lenses. I always carry two cameras, a variety of lenses, a ton of memory cards and various other gizmos!
Are you insured?
Yes I am fully insured including Public Liablilty Insurance.
What happens if you are ill?
In the extremely unlikely event I am unable to attend on the day (12 years and it’s not happened yet!), I am friends with a number of professional photographers providing backup for each other should the need arise.
Will we get to meet you before the wedding day?
I normally meet up with my couples about a month or two before the big day (at your venue/s) to discuss your plans and go over timings etc. This is also very handy so I can scope out the venue/s for the best photo spots. But I am always on hand to offer advice or if I can help in any way in the run up to your wedding.
How long after my wedding will I receive my photos?
I try very hard to have your pictures with you within four weeks – but at very busy times this may be slightly longer. Every picture, from every wedding, is precious and the pictures deserve the time I’ll spend on them in post-production.
How far in advance of the wedding do we need to book?
As far in advance as possible! Usually I get booked about 6 months to a year in advance for most of my weddings, but I’m not fully booked every weekend – if you’ve left it to the last minute do still get in touch and you might be in luck!
Do we need to pay a deposit to secure our booking?
Yes, for weddings I ask for a £100 deposit to be paid to secure your wedding date. The outstanding amount is then due to be paid four weeks prior to your wedding day.
All sounds great! How do I book you?
As soon as you are happy to proceed, please let me know and I will email you a booking form. This also includes further information about the deposit and payment details.
